Germination Process
Steps of Seed Germination
When conditions are right the seed starts to take in water.
As water is taken in, the seed swells bigger and bigger until the coat splits apart, enabling oxygen to reach the seed.
Oxygen helps the soon-to-be-sprout take in the food store within the seed, which produces enough energy for the plant to begin growing.
The plants roots grow downward into the soil and the shoot begins to sprout upwards, reaching for light.
As the first tiny leaves germinate, they are able to begin photosynthesis.
As the roots grow stronger, the plant grows larger and stronger
